After raiding my house for a Mt. Dew the other day i went to the grocery store near my house in an effort to suppress a serious caffeine withdrawal.I decided a cup of coffee would suffice and waited in line for what felt like for ever. I decided instead of waiting i would grab a monster from the checkout stand and be on my way. In the 30 seconds it took me to open the refrigerator door and drab my drink the man behind me decided he was in too much of a hurry to wait in line behind me. As i waited for him to finish paying for his whole basket of items,   (with my one drink in hand) i started thinking about how i usually let people go in front of me in line if they have a lot less than me in their cart. I decided i should stop doing this act of kindness considering i cant think of a single time when someone did the same for me. Then i thought about it on a deeper level. Maybe people are rude to others (like the guy that cut in front of me in line) because the have given up on others ability to be kind. So is it just a never ending circle? Do people lose their ability to treat others kindly because people are rude to them too? And even more importantly, can we change this tendency by simply making an effort to make a strangers day better? Just a thought.
